Location

Sv. Filip i Jakov (St. Phillip and Jacob), or Filip Jakov (Phillip Yacov) for short, is a well-known tourist destination during the summer season. Sv. Filip i Jakov features one of the most beautiful Adriatic coastlines and proximity of four National Parks: the Plitvica Lakes, the gorges of Paklenica, the waterfalls and whitewater of river Krka and the pristine nature of the islands of Kornati. Waterpolo strongholds of Split and Sibenik are close by; Dubrovnik and Zagreb are around 4 hours drive away. The region has several dozens of water-polo teams who actively compete during the summer, having only the Adriatic Sea as their playground.

Local water polo team ‘Gusar’ was established as early as 1953, producing several nationally and internationally successful Croatian water polo players, including AdriaPolo’s own Program Director and Head Coach. Gusar entered Croatian water polo hall of fame by resurrecting women’s water polo and producing one of the best Croatian women water polo team, winner of the Croatian women water polo championship. Kontov Mul (Count’s Warf), Gusar’s home pool, is a historical rarity, built over a 100 years ago by the local Count Borelli.
